Locking a table of contents

Note:  This feature is not available on the evaluation version.

Every time PowerTOC updates a table of contents, it applies formatting according to the rules explained in the formatting example, with some limitations. That is, PowerTOC looks at the formatting of the first character when it updates. Therefore, if you apply special formatting to other areas, you may lose that formatting when PowerTOC updates.

Also, if you have made manual changes to the table of contents, for whatever reason, you will lose those changes when PowerTOC updates.

To prevent loss of special formatting during an update, you can lock the table of contents. A locked table of contents is not updated by PowerTOC, either manually or automatically.

To lock a table of contents:

1.Open the PowerPoint presentation containing the table of contents you want to lock.
2.Click the Lock TOC button on the PowerTOC toolbar on PowerPoint 2007, or click on the Lock TOC item of the Tools menu on the PowerTOC toolbar on previous versions.

The Lock TOC button changes to Unlock TOC, so that you can unlock the table of contents later.
