If you don't want to save your form model as a template, you can protect it from being overwritten in other ways. For example,
| • | UseFormsAssistant to protect a form model by making it a read-only file. |
| • | Use standard Windows controls to make the file a read-only file. |
| • | Use Word to create and store a form as a Word template. |
| Note: | You could, of course, also use Word's Save As feature to avoid overwriting the original file, but you run the risk of unintentionally clicking Save instead of Save As. |
To protect your form model using FormsAssistant
| 1. | When you have finished working with the form model in Word, save the file. |
| 2. | Click the FormsAssistant button on Word's FormsAssistant toolbar. |
| 3. | On the Main window toolbar, click the Protect button. FormsAssistant converts the form model to a read-only file, and displays the following Information dialog box. |

| Note: | If you try to process a protected model with FormsAssistant, an error message similar to the one shown below reminds you to save the model with a different name before processing it. |
