Protecting a form model

If you don't want to save your form model as a template, you can protect it from being overwritten in other ways. For example,

UseFormsAssistant to protect a form model by making it a read-only file.
Use standard Windows controls to make the file a read-only file.
Use Word to create and store a form as a Word template.
Note: You could, of course, also use Word's Save As feature to avoid overwriting the original file, but you run the risk of unintentionally clicking Save instead of Save As.

To protect your form model using FormsAssistant

1. When you have finished working with the form model in Word, save the file.
2. Click the FormsAssistant button on Word's FormsAssistant toolbar.
3. On the Main window toolbar, click the Protect button. FormsAssistant converts the form model to a read-only file, and displays the following Information dialog box.

SaveAsReadOnly

Note:If you try to process a protected model with FormsAssistant, an error message similar to the one shown below reminds you to save the model with a different name before processing it.
